American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a podium spot for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, finished third in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in the French Alps

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm happy with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With 47 days remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She has one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning two decades.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup campaign includes a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
