The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
