The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:
- Each team includes just eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Input
All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
