The Gruesome Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Fans
Among all the adult-oriented animated films I have personally watched, no other has remained with me quite like the dread-soaked conclusion of a graphically gory as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker crafted a grim, somber , often savage universe that included a few small , desolate hints of optimism.
Although The Unicorn Wars seems like it stemmed from a drive to advance animation even more, the filmmaker clarified that it was rather an effort to express a global, multicultural theme regarding “the shared root of every conflict.”
That idea is conveyed through a band of vividly colored bears , obviously modeled after a famous series of cuddly characters.
Being raised in a community centered on aggression as well as the military-industrial complex, many of these creatures are fixated on killing unicorns, due to a holy book which states the bears they were once kings of the woods, until these creatures forced them out.
Some did not entirely accepted the brainwashing, , prefer to sample substances and fornicate in the forest.
Unlike their friendly equivalents, these bright beings have visible sexual organs and definite libidos.
For a particular especially vicious, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the battle against the unicorns turns into a path to control — and specifically to authority above his gentler, kinder brother the bear Tubby.
Bluey acts as a tormentor , a seeming antisocial figure , and when fear dominates his unit and takes his teammates individually, he seizes more and more power personally, in increasingly bloody, destructive ways.
At the same time, these mythical beings are experiencing their own horror, as a growing, harmful creature in their woods.
“In the early stages, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker said. “Yet it turns into a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And by the end, it becomes a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like among the quirky films by a renowned animator, that uncover a mischievous joy in allowing animated figures curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.
Subsequently it turns into more akin to a more grim work from that director, including ever more explicit brutality and a noticeable relation to the actual suffering of conflict.
Ultimately, it’s a full-on extreme drama carnage.
The fear which makes the film a Halloween-friendly movie starts well before than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the most dedicated gorehounds, for lovers of graphic films who wish to watch something they’ve never watched previously, and can endure a plot that offers unflinching brutality.
View it with the lights off free from interruptions, and that ending will crawl under your skin and linger.
