New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on August 18 with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was projected as a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in March.
