Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported debris fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
