Fans Urge Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who jumped a barrier and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the Australian man pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway flanked by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the city last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Grande's Safety
Several fans accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further message on Instagram.
Several fans also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others called for social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two contrasting sorceresses.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, securing several for best costume and artistic direction.
