Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the attack left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
