Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial championship series following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated championship.
"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."
Springer has now slugged 23 playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person anywhere that I want up in that moment other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance this season.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this game," he continued.
Toronto won the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
