As stated by a senior defense spokesperson, the American military executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Actions

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to increase the military buildup.

Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amid Scrutiny

The administration has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's current government.
